They had been leading since day two and never relinquished the top spot: Christian and Rene Nell secured overall victory at the Ennstal-Classic 2026 in their 1967 Austin Mini Cooper S with a commanding third-place finish in the City Grand Prix, an event they had already dominated several times in previous years. Florian and Dieter Böhmdorfer finished second in their 1972 Mercedes-Benz 350 SLC, while Fritz Jirowsky and Gerhard Soukal secured third place in their 1971 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV.
Once again, it was an incredibly exciting finale. The top three changed in the very last competition, as Florian and Dieter Böhmdorfer overtook Fritz Jirowsky and Gerhard Soukal, who had held second place since the previous day, in the final metres and pushed them back into third. Last year’s winners, Peter Schöggl and Werner Tripolt, finished fourth in their 1970 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce, while Erich and Roswitha Volk took fifth place in their 1965 Ford Mustang. While Klaus and Jonas Landerl in their 1937 BMW 328 claimed a surprise victory at the Gröbming Grand Prix, it was especially the second-placed Böhmdorfer/Böhmdorfer duo who benefited from a solid runner-up finish, moving up to the same position in the final overall standings. For Nell/Nell, third place in the Grand Prix was enough to secure overall victory.
A Mini, a Mercedes-Benz and an Alfa Romeo: the diversity of marques seen throughout the field was also reflected on the podium. In general, cars from all age groups achieved strong positions in the final standings. The day-one winners finished eighth overall with Wawronek/Wawronek and twelfth with Kunz-Hemetsberger/Kunz.
An emotional 34th edition of the Ennstal-Classic, held in perfect weather, thrilled thousands of spectators along the route, in the stage towns and, above all, in the event’s epicentre of Gröbming, where the Porsche Design Grand Prix provided world-class entertainment for motorsport enthusiasts on the final day.
The journey through automotive history began with three pre-war legends: the Delahaye 135 S, a Bugatti Type 50 and an MG C-Type, all of them multiple Le Mans veterans. The Porsche fleet brought a spectacular display of sound and vision to Gröbming: Timo Bernhard drove the Porsche 911 GT1 Le Mans, while Richard Lietz took the wheel of the famous “Pink Pig”, the Porsche 911 RSR GTE. The long-tail version of the Porsche 906 and the agile Porsche 904, both authentic icons of endurance racing history, were also on the starting grid.
The field was completed by the original 1965 Le Mans race car, the ISO A3C. This impressive line-up was further enhanced by additional icons such as the Maserati A6 GCS and the legendary Ford GT40, driven by Mathias Walkner and Tobias Moretti, as well as an original Audi racing Quattro from the 1980s, owned and driven by Siegfried Wolf, with none other than Wolfgang Porsche himself in the passenger seat.
