Birgit Wawronek in a 1970 Jaguar E-Type is leading at the halfway point in Taggenbrunn. Behind her are Christian and Rene Nell in a 1967 Austin Mini Cooper S, followed by Florian and Dieter Böhmdorfer in a Mercedes-Benz 350 SLC.
They have been competing for years and are always good for a top result. Following the first interim classification, Walther and Birgit Wawronek are now in the lead. In their 1970 Jaguar E-Type, they have accumulated just 425 penalty points.
The experienced Christian and Rene Nell follow in second place with their 1967 Mini Cooper S, another proven Ennstal-Classic veteran. Florian and Dieter Böhmdorfer currently occupy third place in their 1972 Mercedes-Benz 350 SLC, which is also a familiar sight at the Ennstal-Classic.
Last year’s winners, Peter Schöggl and Werner Tripolt, are currently in tenth place in their 1970 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce. One position ahead of them are Enrico Falchetto and Peter Ulm in their 1954 Austin Healey Le Mans. All results from the interim classification can be found here.
After a rainy start, the competitors enjoyed sunshine throughout the stage, a beautiful drive up to Mauterndorf and another spell of changeable weather during the lunch stop in Taggenbrunn. The entire field remains in excellent condition, with no incidents or retirements reported during the day.
The next highlights are the laps at the Red Bull Ring from 5:00 p.m. and the Sölk Pass stage from approximately 6:45 p.m. The first day will conclude with the Scuderia Gohm evening event in Schladming.
