The first day of the Ennstal-Classic 2026 was marked by several changes in the lead. In the end, the Minis came out on top.
Comparing the interim results from Taggenbrunn at lunchtime with the overall standings at the end of the first day of the Ennstal-Classic 2026, everything had changed. In the end, the Minis came out on top, with the daughter-and-father team of Marlene Kunz-Hemetsberger and Florian Kunz taking first place.
Only second place remained unchanged. Christian and Rene Nell in their 1967 Mini Cooper S held firmly onto the runner-up position throughout the entire day. Around them, however, the standings were thoroughly reshuffled. Walther and Birgit Wawronek in their 1970 Jaguar E-Type, who had still been leading at lunchtime, found themselves in 13th place after reaching the finish in Schladming. Böhmdorfer/Böhmdorfer in their 1972 Mercedes-Benz 350 SLC slipped back one position to fourth, while Claude and Andrea Schwegler in their 1971 Triumph TR6 moved up into third.
Last year’s winners, Peter Schöggl and Werner Tripolt in their 1970 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce, worked their way back within striking distance of the leaders and now sit in fifth place. The experienced teams Rossetti/Schamaun, in 57th place with their 1954 Maserati A6 GCS/53, and Falchetto/Ulm, in 58th place with their 1954 Austin Healey Le Mans, have meanwhile fallen further out of contention at the front.
But who knows – the second day of the Ennstal-Classic has always been full of surprises.
According to most competitors, the decisive challenge on day one was the regularity test at the Red Bull Ring. Considered on its own, the test was won by the Nell/Nell duo in their Mini, who currently sit second overall. However, the numerous special stages towards the end of the day also cost several teams a top position. An overview of all results from the day can be found here.
Among the highlights of the Marathon, which starts in Gröbming at 7:30 a.m., are the traditional excursion to Lunz in Lower Austria, the much-celebrated lunch stop in Steyr and the regularity laps at Niederöblarn airfield. From 6:30 p.m., the Classic Tent in Gröbming will be dedicated to Porsche Night.
